Senior Backend Engineer (all genders) - PHP

Job Summary
Senior Backend Engineer to architect, develop, and operate Golang and PHP services deployed to thousands of users. Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and designers to solve problems and deliver high-quality, scalable backend systems. Take operational responsibility for components you develop and contribute to the Urban Sports Club backend cluster, driving engineering best practices. Build and maintain event-driven communication between services via Pub/Sub, and work in a hybrid setup with on-site and remote options across Europe. Requires proven experience in PHP (and preferably Golang) and cloud platforms, plus ability to design APIs, deploy production-grade services, and reason about systems at scale.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience in PHP and Golang
- experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS) and cloud services
- strong API design and documentation skills
- distributed, high-volume services experience
- strong understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
