Job Summary
Senior Automation Engineer (Contractor - Outside IR35) for a 3-month engagement to consolidate fragmented automated testing into a single Playwright-based TypeScript suite. You’ll work autonomously on consolidating Cypress, Robot Framework, Cucumber-JS, Karate, and Jest+Supertest into a unified Playwright framework, build high-value end-to-end and API tests for core flows (Quote, Policy, Billing, Wallet), establish reusable patterns (fixtures, page objects, environment seeding), and leverage generative AI tools to migrate and port legacy tests. Requirements include Playwright + TypeScript expertise, experience testing distributed microservices in fintech/insurtech contexts, and the ability to operate as an independent contractor (Limited Company/PSC). The project is remote within the UK, outside IR35, deliverables-driven, with a day rate up to £600.
Required Qualifications
- Proven Playwright and TypeScript experience building outside-in browser and API integration tests from scratch
- Experience consolidating multiple test frameworks into a single Playwright-based suite
- Comfort with AI-assisted tooling for code generation and testing
- Experience in fintech/insurtech or highly regulated environments
- Ability to deliver architecture and reusable testing patterns for maintenance by permanent staff
- Strong understanding of distributed microservices and testing across UI/API/Eventing
- Familiarity with mock services (e.g., WireMock) and event-based testing
- Ability to work autonomously in a contract engagement (limited company/PSC)
- Experience with Cypress, Robot Framework, Cucumber-JS, Karate, Jest+Supertest (nice-to-have)
- Knowledge of Playwright in TypeScript for end-to-end and API testing
- Strong problem-solving for flaky tests and CI/CD integration
- Experience in leveraging AI tools for test automation
