Job Summary
Senior Automation/Controls Engineer to support a project-based on-site engagement in Kalamazoo, MI. Responsibilities include analyzing and understanding existing automation systems, developing and finalizing HMI/SCADA displays, configuring system instances for tanks and vacuum processes, updating navigation and network status interfaces, adding alarms and historian tags, supporting FactoryTalk components (FTA E and FT Linx), assisting with communication logic and integration with CCMS, supporting EMS and ECS systems, performing troubleshooting and corrective actions, maintaining MODPROC documentation, reviewing validation-related deliverables, working with FRS and related documentation, managing documentation migration, supporting validation testing (offline and online), setting up development environments for validation readiness, participating in implementation activities (displays, alarms, historian, system updates), assisting with drawing management (IFC, walkdowns), wiring standardization and field verification, and coordinating project communications. The engagement totals approximately 300 hours and is fully onsite. Requires 8–10+ years in automation/controls, strong HMI/SCADA experience, FactoryTalk familiarity, capability to read/modify automation code, alarm/historian experience, regulated-environment validation knowledge, and independent, proactive work style.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of experience in automation, controls, or process engineering
- Strong experience with HMI/SCADA systems in industrial environments
- Experience working with FactoryTalk or similar SCADA platforms
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify existing automation code and configurations
- Experience with alarm management and historian systems
- Knowledge of system validation processes and testing in regulated environments
- Experience supporting deployments and working across the full system lifecycle
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Experience working in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated environments preferred
- Familiarity with EMS and ECS systems is a plus
- Experience with technical documentation, FRS, and validation documentation
- Exposure to CAD drawings, IFC documentation, and field walkdowns preferred
- Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and coordination skills across cross-functional teams
