Job Summary
Partner with the Infrastructure ESG / Climate Strategy Lead to shape and operationalize Ares' firmwide approach to decarbonization and climate risk management. Engage day-to-day with portfolio companies and assets across all business lines to advise leadership on value-accretive decarbonization opportunities and support execution of practical climate initiatives. Coordinate annual financed emissions footprint including data collection, QA/QC, calculation, analysis, and management of software vendors. Develop scalable tools to assist portfolio companies in accelerating their decarbonization plans and support external climate-related reporting such as TCFD and LP requests. Analyze climate-related firmwide risks to establish mitigating practices and serve as the internal expert providing clear recommendations to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in climate/ESG-related business practices, investments, and sustainability
- Experience in the financial services industry
- Alternative asset management experience
- Strong knowledge of climate and carbon—including emissions disclosure frameworks (e.g., TCFD), target-setting methodologies (e.g., SBTi, NZAM), approaches to decarbonization, and management of physical and transition risks from climate change
- Technical knowledge and experience specifically in carbon accounting—including basic science, governing frameworks (e.g., GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, PCAF), calculation methodologies, QA/QC, and reporting
- Ability to conduct advanced analysis in Excel
- Ability to partner with software vendors to develop analysis
- Demonstrated ability to independently toggle between strategic framing and technical/quantitative climate work
- Ability to translate complex issues for non-technical audiences
- Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders with varying degrees of climate knowledge
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to influence without authority in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Demonstrated success in managing complex projects or pieces of projects in a matrixed organization
