Job Summary
Senior Associate Attorney - Litigation responsible for managing complex medical malpractice defense matters from inception through resolution, including pre-suit investigation, discovery, motions, trial, and appeal. Represent physicians, hospitals, and healthcare professionals in depositions and court proceedings; lead trial preparation, develop case strategies, and oversee client relations and risk assessment. Serve as first- or second-chair trial counsel, mentor junior associates, and coordinate with clients and carriers to position cases for favorable resolution. Maintain case files, draft pleadings, and conduct direct and cross-examinations; provide strategic guidance on liability exposure, jury appeal, and trial risk. Requires a J.D., California bar licensure, and a track record of senior-level litigation in civil defense; salary range $170,000–$250,000 per year; full-time, part-time, and contract availability.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of California
- Minimum ten (10) years of legal experience (preferably civil defense)
- Minimum five (5) years of litigation experience (preferably medical malpractice)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to develop client relationships
- Mentor junior associates in deposition strategy, motion practice, and courtroom presentation
- Ability to conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents
- Experience in defense of physicians, hospitals, and healthcare professionals
- Trial experience as first- or second-chair counsel
- Knowledge of evolving medical malpractice law and procedural rules
- Ability to manage a caseload from inception through resolution
- Experience with settlement negotiations and mediations
