Senior Assistant General Counsel - Litigation

Job Summary
Represent the Chicago Housing Authority in state and federal court matters, including personal injury litigation, eviction cases, and administrative hearings. Evaluate pre-litigation disputes to determine appropriate courses of action and provide research, analysis, and recommendations on housing regulations, policies, and applicable laws. Advise client departments on goal achievement in compliance with rules and lead initiatives as needed. Handle diverse litigation matters and prepare required reports for the Deputy General Counsel and other stakeholders. Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with potential for additional hours based on deadlines. Hybrid work schedule available after a successful 90-day probationary period.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to the Illinois bar
- Good standing
- Minimum of eight (8) years of substantial litigation experience
- Strong experience with personal injury cases
- Experience invoking immunities where appropriate
- Experience litigating in federal court
- Strong skills in written advocacy
- Discovery skills (including expert discovery)
- Trial advocacy skills
- Proficiency in the use of technology to manage case-related responsibilities (e.g., Excel, Adobe, and other software designed to enhance productivity)
