Job Summary
Design and deliver comprehensive drawing packages for high-performance, 3D-printed concrete buildings, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and project timelines. Produce construction documents, wall assembly drawings, and building envelope details focusing on window, door, and waterproofing systems. Lead project teams to coordinate construction sequencing for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing integration with printed wall components. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and material science departments to determine best practices for weatherization and thermal performance. Review consultant drawings to ensure successful interfaces between printed walls and non-printed elements, while coordinating with software engineers and print technicians for field implementation.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in complex, multi-disciplinary design projects
- Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
- Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Google and Adobe Suites
- Experience coordinating all phases of design (schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration) with all disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
- Experience producing and organizing construction documents for complex projects, with an emphasis on integrating building systems
- Strong experience in Construction Administration, including RFI and submittal review, and other general construction-related correspondence
- Working knowledge of the International Residential (IRC) and Building (IBC) codes, ADA guidelines, Fair Housing Act (FHA), principles of concrete design & construction, construction specifications, and test methods and standards associated with the testing of building envelope systems (AAMA/ASTM)
- Desire to work with a highly collaborative team, on a quickly evolving product, and in a fast-paced environment
- Proactive problem-solving skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask
- Interest in sustainable design, curiosity for novel architectural technologies, and desire to perfect the craft of construction
- This role is can be based at ICON's Austin, TX campus or ICON's Miami, FL campus
Desired Qualifications
- Licensure not required, we support candidates pursuing certification
- Familiarity with parametric and computational design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Dynamo) to explore and optimize complex forms, workflows, or performance outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in research and development environments, particularly contributing to prototype testing, materials research, or novel building systems
- Ability to develop and manage BIM standards and digital workflows for interdisciplinary collaboration and construction documentation
- Experience collaborating with or managing external consultants, including structural engineers, sustainability experts, and testing labs
- Experience leading and delivering projects that integrate emerging construction technologies, such as 3D printing, robotics, prefab, or modular construction
- Familiarity with code compliance testing protocols, ICC-ES reports, or material certification processes
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively in fast-paced, iterative design-build environments
- Passion for designing for social impact, including housing innovation, affordability, and climate resilience
