Senior Architect / Engineer

Job Summary
Provide architectural or engineering expertise throughout planning, design, construction, and project closeout for complex healthcare facility projects. Review construction drawings, specifications, technical submittals, RFIs, and change orders while evaluating contractor proposals and verifying compliance with federal, state, local, and VA design standards. Conduct field observations to verify construction quality, assist in developing risk management plans, and support construction meetings to resolve technical issues with stakeholders. Ensure adherence to building codes, life safety requirements, and accessibility standards while participating in the Quality Assurance Surveillance Program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related discipline
- Current Registered Architect license
- Minimum six (6) years of professional architectural or engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience in Architectural/engineering design
- Demonstrated experience in Construction administration or construction management
- Minimum three (3) years of field experience supporting projects of similar scope and complexity
- Thorough knowledge of Building codes
- Thorough knowledge of Life Safety Code
- Thorough knowledge of Construction methods and materials
- Thorough knowledge of Construction processes
- Thorough knowledge of Federal design standards
- Thorough knowledge of Risk management
- Ability to identify construction deficiencies and recommend corrective actions
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to review technical documents and provide sound engineering or architectural recommendations
- Candidates should be prepared to provide examples of three (3) projects of similar size, complexity, and scope where they served in a comparable role
- Must demonstrate the ability to proactively identify project risks, code issues, schedule impacts, and construction concerns while providing practical, professional recommendations
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Veterans Affairs healthcare facilities
- Department of Defense or federal healthcare project experience
- Medical facility design or construction experience
- Knowledge of NFPA, ASHRAE, FGI Guidelines, International Building Code (IBC), and applicable VA design standards
- Commissioning or quality assurance experience
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and construction management software
- Experience supporting federal construction projects, particularly healthcare environments
