Job Summary
Senior Architect, AI Systems to lead the vision setting for and deployment of AI solutions across Uncommon Schools—from intelligent agents that automate workflows to secure integrations with core systems. Translate business needs into scalable AI infrastructure, mentor developers across functions, and help shape how the organization leverages generative AI. Responsibilities include gathering requirements, designing end-to-end AI architectures, prototyping with LLMs and RAG pipelines, deploying production-grade AI agents, building secure data pipelines and API integrations, establishing reusable AI stack templates and low-code tools, maintaining documentation, and ensuring security and compliance with PII handling. Preferred focus on governance, prompt engineering practices, and coaching adjacent teams; on-call for data infrastructure; minimal travel; in-person office presence in NYC.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- 7+ years of professional software development experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building integrations using APIs between applications
- 5+ years working with source control and continuous integration tools (such as GitLab)
- Proficiency coding or scripting in at least one programming language (Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Node.js)
- Experience with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment practices
- Strong understanding of automation tools and SDLC methodologies
