Job Summary

The Senior Archaeologist role involves managing heritage and cultural resources, focusing on compliance and technical report writing for various projects. Responsibilities include using topographic maps and GPS tools, preparing survey reports, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and overseeing project execution with cross-functional teams. A Master's Degree in a related field and over five years of relevant experience are required, along with technical writing skills and the ability to act as a Principal Investigator for state and federal permits.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in the context of Section 106/110 compliance.
  • Experience in CRM archaeology, preferably in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Arkansas.
  • Qualify as a Principal Investigator on state and federal permits in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
  • Understanding of regulatory framework for cultural resource management compliance.
  • Excellent technical writing and demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports, preparing cultural resources impact evaluations, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys, peer review, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with State and Federal protection regulations, preservation guidelines, and consulting processes pertaining to the specific cultural resources position.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Acted as a principal investigator overseeing state permitted projects in the last two years.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Ability to support business development initiatives.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Desired Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to a specialist with clearly defined knowledge, skills and abilities as evidenced through publications/presentations and work experience in the region.
  • Active participation in professional practice organizations.
  • Knowledge of field GPS equipment including ArcGIS FieldMaps.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
