Senior Aquarist

Job Summary
Manage two large freshwater aquariums and invertebrate, amphibian, and reptile exhibits across four Nature Centers by performing daily cleaning, water quality maintenance, diving, diet preparation, feeding, and health assessments. Lead collection management including acquisitions, dispositions, and population control while ensuring life support systems receive routine preventative maintenance. Engage with the public through presentations, facility tours, and education programs, and mentor departmental staff, volunteers, or interns. Respond to emergency calls and assist with design, fabrication, and installation of new animal enclosures.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working in an aquarium or zoo setting
- Environmental education experience
- Four (4) years of experience with fish and invertebrates
- Strong background in reptiles and amphibian husbandry
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or related science
- North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
- County Driving Privileges
- Valid open water dive certification (PADI, SSI, NAUI)
- Knowledge of aquarium LSS, plumbing, and water chemistry as it relates to maintaining a freshwater aquatic habitat
- Knowledge of water quality analysis

Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in an aquarium or zoo setting highly preferred
