Job Summary
The Senior Applied Economist at Navan will architect the internal economic models and forecast accurately using sophisticated techniques. Responsibilities include improving forecasting pipelines with econometric rigor, designing experimental frameworks for business insights, creating data-driven pricing strategies, and writing production-quality Python code for deployment. The desired candidate will hold an advanced degree in a relevant field and have extensive experience in applied research, particularly within tech or fintech, alongside strong technical abilities in Python and SQL. This role is positioned at a mid-level, offering a salary range of $121,500 to $270,000.
Required Qualifications
- An advanced degree (PhD preferred, Masters required) in Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with a heavy emphasis on econometrics or causal inference
- 4+ years of post-academic experience in an applied research, finance, or data science role, ideally within a high-growth tech environment or fintech
- Deep expertise in Python and its data science ecosystem (pandas, statsmodels, scikit-learn, etc.)
- Advanced SQL skills, with experience querying large-scale data warehouses like Snowflake
- Proven ability to apply advanced methods (e.g., Synthetic Control, IV, Diff-in-Diff, Structural Modeling) to messy, real-world datasets
- Experience functioning in 'underdefined' spaces
- Ability to explain economic concepts and communicate uncertainty and risk clearly
