Job Summary
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs supporting the Enterprise Data Access Service (EDAS) and TAG data products using OpenAPI specifications. Build cloud-hosted application services on Microsoft Azure, including scalable microservices and API hosting solutions. Implement application monitoring, logging, telemetry, and health checks while developing secure integrations with VA Profile, VBMS, and Veterans Evaluation Services. Collaborate with architects and stakeholders on technical design, code reviews, and Agile delivery activities. The candidate must reside within the continental US. This role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs' Next Generation Toxic Exposure Risk Activity initiative.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience designing and developing enterprise applications
- 5+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs, enterprise integration services, and cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure
- Strong expertise with REST APIs, OpenAPI (Swagger), JSON, OAuth 2.0, Mutual TLS (mTLS), and secure API design and implementation
- Proficiency in C#, Java, or Python
- Experience using Git, Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor, and cloud-based application development practices
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated experience designing scalable, highly available distributed systems
- Experience collaborating effectively within Agile development teams
- Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), or other Federal agencies and integrating healthcare, military personnel, or benefits systems
- Must reside within the continental US
- Selected candidates will be required to complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check as part of the hiring process
Desired Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications
- Experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, and related Azure integration technologies
- Familiarity with ILER, VA Profile, VBMS, and knowledge of NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, Zero Trust architecture principles, and DevSecOps practices
