Job Summary
Senior Animation Artist at Rodeo FX responsible for delivering high-end, hyper-realistic performances for creatures, characters, and animated objects. Collaborates with Animation Lead and Supervisor to ensure animation meets creative intent, timing, weight, arcs, and posing across varied contexts. Emphasizes interpreting creative direction, proposing original motion choices, and integrating feedback. Ensures animation is clean, export-ready, and adheres to pipeline standards; troubleshoots rigging/scene issues with technical teams; maintains asset naming conventions and file structures. Provides realistic time estimates, communicates issues promptly, and participates actively in dailies and reviews. Engages in mentoring and knowledge sharing with peers, stays current with software and techniques, and keeps pace with evolving industry practices.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a VFX studio environment
- Strong proficiency in Maya; experience with other animation tools is a plus
- Solid understanding of body mechanics, facial animation
- Ability to animate from reference and build compelling acting performances
- High attention to detail, autonomy, and ability to manage deadlines effectively
- Positive, collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
- Asset : Experience with ShotGrid or other production tracking tools
- Asset : Knowledge of rigging fundamentals or custom tool development
- Proven experience as a Senior Animation Artist
Additional Requirements
- Must be based in Montreal or willing to relocate to the Montreal area
- Canadian citizenship or permanent residency is required
- Must be available to work on-site at the studio three days per week
