Job Summary
Develop and maintain core platforms and applications for the public safety platform using Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform. Build quality by integrating early, participating in code reviews, and ensuring high test coverage while aggressively refactoring to reduce technical debt. Architect extensible software systems across multiple technologies, automate CI/CD pipelines, and monitor services to respond to incidents. Collaborate within an Agile environment to drive engineering best practices, continuously learn new technologies, and solve complex problems for responders in the field.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional Software Engineering experience
- 4+ years specialising in native Android development with strong proficiency in Kotlin
- Proven track record of architecting and shipping complex apps to production
- Ability to work well and collaboratively in an Agile environment
- Open to failure, to ask questions and grow and learn from mistakes
- Ability to research, POC and learn new technologies rapidly
- Creative, with the ability to generate and evaluate multiple solutions
- Pragmatic, understanding the impact of new technology
- Ability to evaluate and mitigate risks
- Tertiary Level in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Android standards and ecosystem
- Android SDK (e.g. writing efficient layouts, dealing with application lifecycle)
- Kotlin for Android
- Java and the JVM
- Application of OOP concepts and design patterns
- Reactive programming paradigm
- Functional programming
- Good working knowledge of software architectures
- HTTP and RESTful designs
- Automated Unit, Integration, UI, snapshot and Performance testing
- CI/CD pipelines & Configuration Management
- Git and associated tools, platforms and practices
- OpenAPI and/or Swagger
- Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- 5+ years Mobile Development
- 4+ years Android
- 4+ years Kotlin
- Worked in an Agile environment
Desired Qualifications
- Java and the JVM, additional language experience is a bonus
- Bonus if you have experience with: Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP and Azure
- Local and remote data persistence (SQLDelight, Room, NoSQL)
- Advanced testing techniques (TDD, BDD, ATDD)
- iOS development with Swift, with SwiftUI or UIKit
- Certificates in software or cloud technologies
- Certificates in Agile
