Job Summary
Lead complex, multi-jurisdictional financial crime investigations involving structuring, layering, sanctions evasion, and fraud. Conduct on-chain tracing and attribution analysis to translate technical findings into plain-language conclusions for SAR narratives and BSA Officer review. Serve as the internal authority on bitcoin investigations, escalating anomalies, reviewing junior work, and shaping AI tooling standards for investigative output. Identify emerging typologies to inform monitoring rule design and reduce false positives. Draft defensible suspicious activity narratives and prepare filing packages while making well-reasoned recommendations on customer risk decisions. This hands-on, remote role requires deep blockchain tracing expertise and fluency in Bitcoin to drive change across the compliance program and inform critical business decisions.
Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years in AML, financial crime, or fraud investigations
- Minimum of 2 years dedicated to blockchain or digital asset investigations
- Demonstrated multi-hop tracing through peel chains, consolidations, change behavior, and obfuscation such as nested services
- Ability to name the heuristics relied on and where they break down
- Exceptional analytical abilities
- Judgment to defend a conclusion on ambiguous facts
- Judgment to know when to escalate rather than resolve
- Outstanding written communication
- Track record of SAR narratives and case files that withstand scrutiny
- Strong working knowledge of BSA/AML obligations
- Knowledge of OFAC sanctions requirements
- Knowledge of SAR filing standards
- Hands-on proficiency with blockchain analytics tooling (Chainalysis, TRM Labs)
- Proficiency with open source research
- Proficiency with KYC/case management tools
- Practical experience applying AI tooling professionally
- Judgment to know where AI creates leverage
- Judgment to know where AI output cannot be relied on without verification
- Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a remote, fast-paced setting
- Ability to work with a high degree of urgency
- English fluency
- Location in Malta or EU
