Job Summary

Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements, monitor and resolve book-to-bank differences, and assist with month-end and year-end close activities including journal entries, financial statement preparation, and fixed asset schedule maintenance. Manage grant accounting functions such as allocations, billings, releases, drawdowns, and budget tracking while supporting grant and year-end audits. Prepare compliance reporting for external parties, including city and WA state tax filings, and support accounts payable, expense allocation, and monthly purchase card reporting. Generate reports for management financial analysis and assist with the yearly indirect cost calculation and 990 preparation. Identify process improvement opportunities and collaborate with management to implement them. This temporary role spans nine months within the Finance team at the Allen Institute for AI, a Seattle-based nonprofit focused on foundational AI research.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Experience with accounting software/systems
  • Ability to communicate professionally with limited supervision, both written and oral
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • The ability to observe details at close range
  • Can work under deadlines

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Sage Intacct
  • Experience managing and accounting for federal grants
  • Experience working with 501c3 organizations
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel; general MS Office proficiency
  • CPA or comparable certification
