Job Summary
Own significant components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP. Handle complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition, insurance-related balances, and carrier settlements while serving as the primary finance liaison to insurance operations and actuarial teams. Reconcile high-volume transaction data between operational systems, payment processors, and the general ledger. Support the annual audit and tax filings, prepare PBC schedules, and coordinate with external accountants. Identify and drive process improvements, automation, and documentation of accounting policies and internal controls. This role offers broad exposure across a fast-growing fintech/insurtech business, reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting.
Required Qualifications
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong command of US GAAP
- hands-on experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Self-starter who thrives with ownership and ambiguity
- Clear communicator who can work cross-functionally and explain accounting concepts to non-accountants
Desired Qualifications
- a mix of public accounting and in-house experience
- CPA or active CPA candidate
- Experience at a high-growth startup, fintech, or insurance business
- Proficiency with a modern ERP/GL (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct)
- advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Insurance or statutory accounting exposure (premium accounting, claims, carrier/MGA relationships)
- Experience with billing/payments platforms (e.g., Stripe)
- data tools (SQL)
- Experience supporting a first-time audit or building close processes from scratch
