Job Summary
Prepare annual financial statements and income tax returns for a diverse portfolio of New Zealand clients, moving efficiently from trial balance to filed returns. Build pristine, review-ready files that stand independently without requiring extra explanation. Proactively identify tax efficiencies and balance-sheet discrepancies before they become client-facing issues. Navigate complex entity structures and multi-layered group accounts with speed and accuracy while maintaining high technical accuracy and adhering to agreed time budgets. This fully remote, permanent role offers structured flexibility based on high output rather than desk hours, with 5 weeks of annual leave and home office setup support. You will master New Zealand tax frameworks rapidly, building on a foundation of South African practice accounting experience within a high-trust, results-driven team.
Required Qualifications
- Substantial, hands-on experience working inside a public accounting practice/bureau environment
- A rock-solid background in South African practice accounting
- High tech-agility
- The disciplined autonomy to manage complex client portfolios without being micromanaged
- Strong, verifiable track record in drafting annual financial statements and complex tax returns
- Experience handling larger group accounts
- Technical sharpness and appetite to learn NZ tax and reporting frameworks rapidly
- High proficiency with modern, cloud-based practice tools
- Hands-on experience with Xero and Karbon (or similar workflow engines)
- High personal discipline
- A dedicated and reliable home office setup
- The self-motivation to manage your own workload and hit delivery targets independently
Desired Qualifications
- A completed BCom Accounting degree
- Professional registration (CA / SAIPA / SAICA / AGSA)
- Exceptional hands-on practice experience (when formal qualifications are lacking)
- Experience handling larger group accounts (distinct advantage)
- High proficiency with modern, cloud-based practice tools (strong advantage)
- Hands-on experience with Xero and Karbon (or similar workflow engines) (strong advantage)
