Job Summary
Prepare and manage general and subledger accounting entries, verify and reconcile transactions, and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing functions including reserve adjustments and net asset reclasses. Maintain accounting systems for internal controls, support annual financial statement audits, and assist with accounts payable/receivable as needed. Prepare and submit accurate invoices and reimbursement requests to government and private funders, track grant budgets and expenditures, and ensure expenses are properly coded in accordance with grant agreements. Analyze budget versus actuals, summarize financial results, and maintain organized, audit-ready files for grant and program transactions. This role reports to the Controller in Pioneer, San Jose, CA, with a full-time, exempt schedule. HomeFirst, a nonprofit established in 1980, serves the Bay Area and Sonoma County community through low-barrier housing programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 4+ years of accounting experience
- Experience with grant billing, cost allocation, and compliance (federal Uniform Guidance/2 CFR 200)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with expense reporting and accounting software (e.g., Concur, Ramp or similar)
- Familiarity with rental/housing assistance programs (e.g., ESG, CoC, ERAP, HOME)
- Experience with HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) or similar client data systems
