Job Summary
Security Systems Designer provides design/drawing support for installation and service of security, fire alarm, and life-safety systems across varied projects. Produces design drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and calculations for submittals, planning, and records. Applies intermediate to advanced drafting techniques and low-voltage electrical standards, ensuring code compliance and AHJ alignment. Develops submittal packages, coordinates changes with Sales, uses site surveys and field information to refine designs, and supports Sales during proposals. Requires an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) and 5–7 years of related experience, with CAD experience (AutoCAD) and strong knowledge of low-voltage security/fire alarm systems. Located in Rochester, NY.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a related field required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline preferred
- 5–7 years of field sales or technical design experience in low-voltage/security/fire alarm systems
- 1–2 years of hands-on CAD design experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Microsoft Project a plus)
- Strong understanding of low-voltage systems for security and fire alarm applications
- CAD design experience (AutoCAD or similar) and familiarity with electronic plan management
- Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interpret project documents, codes, and specifications accurately
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to support internal and external stakeholders
