Job Summary

Conduct routine patrols of Guthrie's campuses and grounds while responding to assistance requests from patients, employees, and visitors. Safeguard confidential information, ensure all departments are secure, and maintain high visibility in the emergency department. Assist in patient transportation, restrain individuals when necessary for safety, and report unsafe conditions to supervisors. Complete detailed incident reports and fulfill eight hours of annual continuing education. Maintain courteous interactions with all personnel, comply with infection control and safety protocols, and attend annual physical assessments. Rotating shifts, nights, evenings, days, holidays, weekends, and overtime may be required. Pay ranges from $18.60 to $29.02 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • NYS registration as security guard
  • Valid Drivers' License
  • One or more years' experience in institutional security
  • Working knowledge of the different departmental functions within a hospital or health care facility
  • Working knowledge of state and federal security regulations affecting hospitals
  • Experience in effectively interacting with people
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Willingness to submit to fingerprinting for a background check
  • Must maintain a very neat and well‐groomed appearance
  • Ability to restrain patients, visitors, or employees when necessary to protect personnel or property
  • Ability to assess situations, consider alternatives, and select appropriate course of action
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with local police and fire officials
  • Ability to comply with requirement for annual physical assessment within appropriate timeframe
  • Willingness to work Rotating shifts, nights, evenings, days, and on holidays, weekends, or shifts other than that which is considered as the normal work shift
  • Willingness to work overtime hours
  • Ability to maintain desired attendance level, arrive on time at start of scheduled shift and return promptly after breaks and lunch periods

Desired Qualifications

  • Classroom training in a field relevant to the security functions with course work in the behavioral sciences
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Active law enforcement license in lieu of security guard registration (New York)
