Job Summary
Conduct evening security patrols of hospital buildings and grounds to identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas. Monitor alarms and surveillance cameras, provide protective service for people and property, and respond to emergency situations. Interact professionally with patients, visitors, and staff to create safety awareness, conduct preliminary investigations into thefts or misconduct, and perform patient restraints when necessary. Escort staff and visitors, maintain accountability for valuables and evidence, and assist motorists with jump starts or lockouts. Submit accurate written reports and logs for all incidents, while adhering to the I CARE Standards for patient-centered care. Work evenings from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Sunday, with a requirement for physical fitness including stair climbing and stretcher carrying.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma
- Valid Driver's license from state of residence
- Ability to be licensed as a Special State Police Officer under the Commonwealth of MA General Laws Chapter 22 C, section 63
- Exemplary customer service and communication skills
- Ability to handle complex interpersonal situations and crisis management scenarios
- Strong risk analysis and organizational skills
- Reliable and flexible
- Ability to gather, analyze, evaluate, and utilize facts and evidence
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and routine correspondence
- Ability to operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand/walk for a minimum of 8 hours
- Ability to run to any emergency within the hospital and adjoining campuses
- Strong sight and hearing abilities
- Capacity to use appropriate force to overcome, arrest or restrain someone if necessary
- Ability to perform each task in the functional assessment outlined below upon hire (within the first 90 days)
- Ability to perform the 3 Minute Step Test
- Ability to perform the Step, Bend, and Crawl test
- Ability to perform the Stretcher Carry test
- Ability to perform the Pull and Drag test
- Ability to perform the Balance Walk test
- Ability to perform the Stair Climb test
- Must submit to and pass an initial and annual criminal background check
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification
- Narcan (Naloxone) Training certification
- AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training certification
- International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification
- Ability to adapt to a new and evolving operation
- Motivation to achieve the high professional standards required by the department
- Ability to provide protection to people and property through patrol, investigation, monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras

- Ability to provide a high level of customer service by interacting with patients, visitors and staff in a professional manner

- Ability to be assigned to special duties such as Bike Patrol and/or Community Liaison Officer
- Ability to be assigned to an off-site location, including administrative buildings, ambulatory care centers, and/or community based health clinics
- Ability to be cross-trained in other locations beyond normally assigned work space
- Ability to work other shifts and/or locations when necessary
- Ability to perform additional duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications
- A strong educational background (Associate's or Bachelor's degree) in criminal justice or related field
- A combination of both experience and education
- 1-3 years of security or related experience
- The ability to be licensed as a Special State Police Officer under the Commonwealth of MA General Laws Chapter 22 C, section 63
- Fluency in more than one language
