Job Summary
Patrol museum grounds and monitor security systems from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., surveying galleries, entrances, and exits while providing security escorts. Detect and report unsafe conditions, vandalism, criminal activity, and emergencies to security administration, then respond courteously to visitor and staff requests for assistance. Enforce museum rules, manage crowd control during special events, and complete detailed incident reports for property damage or injuries. Perform light housekeeping duties including sweeping, mopping, and dusting to maintain the facility's presentation. Work five shifts per week with occasional overtime or emergency coverage required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one or more years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work, weekends and holidays, and days to attend training and meetings
- Ability to work as part of a team and under supervision
- Ability to understand and follow operational policies and procedures
- Ability to react calmly and effectively to emergency situations
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- ability to interact with very diverse groups of people and situations including law enforcement, Fire, and EMS personnel
- Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through
- Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees
- Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to visitors and employees
- regularly required to stand and walk in dark and dimly lit conditions
- occasionally required to sit and perform administrative and security tasks with manual dexterity
- Must be able to observe cameras for long periods
Desired Qualifications
- GDE State Guard License or working toward GDE Certification
- Understanding of Honolulu Museum of Art's Mission and Vision or willing to learn and be part of it
- Ability to or capacity to be trained in use of two-way radios, CCTVs, and other security equipment
