Job Summary

Investigate and quell hospital incidents, disturbances, and hazardous conditions to protect patients, visitors, and staff. Conduct perimeter and internal patrols on foot and mobile, monitor access control and security video systems, and control traffic for emergency vehicles and helicopter transports. Enforce hospital policies, perform contraband searches, deliver deceased bodies to the morgue, and escort staff to vehicles as requested. Complete descriptive reports for supervisory personnel and notify city officials when necessary. This full-time, 40-hour evening shift position at Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital requires working every other weekend. Candidates must maintain IAHSS Basic certification, hold current BLS certification, and possess a valid driver's license.

Required Qualifications

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire
  • Maintain IAHSS Basic certification
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association within 9 months of hire
  • Successful completion of Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months of hire
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with a variety of individuals, including employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, law enforcement and other outside agencies
  • Writing skills necessary to complete reports and paperwork that meets departmental standards
  • Valid driver's license
  • Physical ability and knowledge of how to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be able to work every other weekend
  • Must be able to restrain patients upon proper direction and assistance of medical/clinical staff
  • Must be able to conduct contraband searches for patient and employee safety as needed
