Job Summary
Conduct campus patrols via walking, fixed post, or vehicle while enforcing college rules, local laws, and safety protocols. Respond promptly to emergency and service requests from students, faculty, and visitors; investigate incidents involving policy violations or criminal offenses. Submit comprehensive written reports on security issues, hazards, and incidents. Perform scheduled building access control, monthly fire extinguisher inspections, and fire drills. Maintain lost and found property, cover dispatch duties, and provide various transports or escorts as assigned. Test Blue light phones and participate in required trainings. Work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays with flexibility for mandatory overtime.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid New York State driver's license and a driving record which is aligned with the College's motor vehicle policy
- Meet and maintain the requirements and training to be licensed and registered as a security guard in New York State
- Capable of working evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and in inclement weather
- Must be able and willing to work overtime coverage when necessary or directed, including mandatory overtime and for extracurricular campus events
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- The ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous and understanding way with members of a diverse residential and academic community and the general public
- Ability to multi task and to maintain composure in emergency situations
- Ability to respond to calls for service
- Be reliable and able to work independently
- Must exercise good judgment and display sensitivity to the unique role that security plays in a college setting
- Able to perform the physical duties of the job including, but not limited to, climbing stairs, crouching, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods
- Must complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings
