Job Summary
Conduct routine and random patrols of hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas to deter and detect unsafe activity. Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies while de-escalating disruptive situations involving patients, visitors, or staff. Control access to restricted areas, monitor security systems including cameras and alarms, and accurately document all incidents and actions in written reports. Collaborate with clinical staff, hospital leadership, and local law enforcement as needed during emergency response activities such as fire alarms, evacuations, and medical emergencies. Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff while adhering to hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in security, public safety, hospital, healthcare, or behavioral health environment involving direct interaction with patients, visitors, or the public
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service mindset with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
- Ability to follow protocols, policies, and instructions accurately
- CPR/BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- AVADE certification
- Active driver's license
- Must have the ability to perform essential functions of the position, including required work hours, locations and physical demands, without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or other individuals in the work place
Desired Qualifications
- Prior security, law enforcement, military, or hospital security experience
- Healthcare or behavioral health security experience
- Previous hospital security experience
- Advanced security education
- Experience using access control and CCTV systems
- Strong report writing skills
