Job Summary
Security Guard responsible for protecting shelter guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors at a congregate shelter serving homeless individuals with mental illness and substance use challenges. Responsibilities include patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance and access points, conducting inspections, responding to crises with de-escalation techniques, recording incidents, and enforcing policies. Requires trauma-informed care approaches, collaboration with shelter staff, and timely reporting to authorities when needed. Must model professionalism, maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively, and be flexible to work various shifts. CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within 30 days of start date.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years’ work experience with homeless population (preferred)
- 1-3 years’ experience working in security
- Sobriety minimum of three (3) years if in recovery (preferred)
- CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of start date
- Criminal background check required
- Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish preferred
