Security Control Assessor Apprentice

Job Summary
Conduct security control reviews by following established checklists, collect and maintain documentation, screenshots, and evidence for audits, and record preliminary observations for senior staff review. Assist with tracking open findings, corrective actions, and deadlines while escalating overdue items. Learn to use approved cybersecurity tools for basic vulnerability scans and checks under direct supervision. Maintain accurate compliance records, including trackers, checklists, and policy files, and support security incident documentation by organizing meeting notes and tracking follow-ups. Prepare cybersecurity awareness materials, track training completion, and send reminders. Complete assigned apprenticeship training, progress reviews, and competency assessments while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- US citizenship or resident alien status
- At least 18 years of age
- Residency in Guam for a period not less than three (3) consecutive years before entry into the program
- Submission of Mayor's Verification upon hire
- Attendance of a minimum of two (2) classes per semester as identified by program coordinator
- Work of forty (40) hours per week with IT&E
- Knowledge of basic computer operations, file management, and office procedures
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of basic cybersecurity concepts and terminology, or the ability to learn them
- Skill in organizing files, records, and detailed information
- Skill in preparing clear and accurate written notes, trackers, and reports
- Skill in following established procedures and checklists
- Skill in managing assigned tasks, priorities, and deadlines
- Skill in working collaboratively with employees across departments
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and accurately, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to learn and apply cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technical concepts
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and promptly escalate concerns to senior staff
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while accepting supervision, feedback, and direction
- Ability to maintain attention to detail while managing multiple assignments
