Job Summary

Monitor all activity at assigned school locations to ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors while maintaining vigilance and establishing professional rapport. Respond, report, and deter inappropriate actions from internal and external sources, manage traffic control points, and maintain records on activities and students. Evaluate prevention measures, maintain crisis plans, and respond to emergencies, providing security and crowd control for school activities, sports, and special events. Assist with safe school audits, lockdown procedures, and prepare the "crash box" for school use. Collaborate with the School Resource Officer and police on crime prevention techniques and work with property managers to identify safety concerns. Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws and policies under the direction of the principal.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of related work experience
  • NIMS (National Incident Management System) Certification, levels 100, 200, 700
  • Ability to perform, random metal searches, soft target identification, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design functions
  • Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution
  • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public
  • Ability to perform effectively and efficiently in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
  • Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
  • Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
  • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Knowledge of the National Incident Command System for use in critical incidents
  • Knowledgeable of current first-response tactics and techniques
  • Knowledge of current first-response tactics and techniques, including Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Program
  • Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies
  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
  • Must be available for work at other locations as reasonably required by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
  • Must adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Must respond, report and deter inappropriate actions or activities from both internal and external sources
  • Must manage and monitor traffic control points as assigned
  • Must maintain records on activities and students
  • Must evaluate prevention measures, maintain crisis plans, and respond to school/department emergencies
  • Must provide security and crowd control for school activities, sports, and special events
  • Must assist the Rapid Response Associates with safe school audits
  • Must assist administrative staff in lockdown procedures
  • Must prepare the 'crash box' for school
  • Must be familiar with building emergency action and evacuation plans
  • Must work with School Resource Officer and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Police Department on crime prevention techniques
  • Must work with Property Managers to help identify building and grounds safety concerns
  • Must be able to write disciplinary referrals for students

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior military and/or law enforcement experience
