Job Summary
Observe and report safety hazards, property damage, and security concerns to a Security Supervisor. Proactively greet visitors, run check-ins for special events, and maintain posts in gardens and galleries. Assist patrons with accessibility aids and act as a first responder during emergencies like earthquakes or medical incidents. Adhere to institutional rules, participate in daily briefings and curatorial walkthroughs, and manage wayfinding signage. This part-time role at The Huntington requires standing for eight hours, flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends, and physical mobility to walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- The ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing and via radio
- Flexible schedule including overtime, evening, and weekend work
- Friendly and outgoing disposition
- Strong communication skills to interact with diverse visitors
- Understanding of how body language can convey a welcoming yet professional presence
- Experience dealing with the public in customer service or hospitality capacity
- Familiarity with The Huntington
- Strong interest in cultural property collections
- Ability to handle fast-paced events, as well as to remain focused and attentive during quieter times
- Consistently exercise and demonstrate good judgment
- Willingness to act as a first responder in emergency situations such as earthquakes, power outages, or incidents requiring medical attention
- Ability to stand for long periods (an average of 8 hours per shift)
- Ability to wear a radio earpiece at a normal volume setting
