Job Summary
Sector/Divisional Controller – Utilities & Rail overseeing project accounting for a portfolio of construction-focused subsidiaries within an ~$800M organization. Partners with sector leadership and project managers on backlog, WIP, unbilled receivables, write-offs, change orders, and cost overruns; ensures proper billing structures, retainage, and timely sector financial statements; supports external audits, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration across multi-state operations; leads 10–15 project accountants and accounting staff; drives improvements in reporting, data quality, automation, and workflow efficiency; involved in ERP implementation and integration of acquisitions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibility
- Experience in architecture, engineering, consulting, construction, or professional services
- Experience overseeing multi-entity or multi-state accounting operations
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, audit support, and compliance
- Deep understanding of project lifecycle accounting (revenue recognition, billing, collections, backlog, WIP, profitability analysis)
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable operational insights
- Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency and ERP/project accounting systems experience
- Preferred: BST, UNANET, Deltek, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Trimble Spectrum/Viewpoint or similar ERP systems
