Job Summary
Section Manager Planning role focusing on developing and implementing mine planning and scheduling to support the business plan (5-year, 2-year forecasts, annual, monthly, and weekly forecasts). Responsible for asset optimisation, integration of planning with operations, life-of-mine and budget planning, providing technical expertise to production teams, and ensuring compliance with legal and operational standards. The role includes risk assessment for life-of-mine plans, relationships with management and external stakeholders, people management, and budgeting with the potential to sign off as a Competent Person for Reserves. Qualifications include Mining Engineering or Geology-related degree at NQF7 level, with relevant professional registration and 8+ years of open-pit coal mining experience; proficiency in mine planning design, safety, and regulatory frameworks; strong computer literacy and communication skills. Required Qualifications
- BTech / Diploma/ Degree in Mining Engineering or Geo Science related field (NQF 7)
- Mine Managers Certificate of competence advantageous
- Relevant Professional body registration
- Extensive operational experience in opencast coal mining (minimum 8 years)
- In-depth Mine Planning / Design experience
- Knowledge of MHSA, MPRDA and Environmental Legislation
- Strong MS Office and Mine Planning software skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strategic & creative thinking
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to manage budgeting and financial planning
- Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders
