Job Summary
Section Head overseeing laboratory operations to ensure accurate and timely sample analysis, supervising a multidisciplinary team (Laboratory Technicians, Support Services Technicians, Media Technicians and Microbiologists) and maintaining high standards of safety, quality and customer service. Responsible for workload management, equipment and resource planning, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Regulatory and Accreditation requirements, training and development of staff, and collaboration with the Laboratory Manager to address unsafe practices and drive continuous improvement. Requires degree in a biological science, strong laboratory microbiology experience, leadership ability, and proficient communication and organisational skills. Applicants should be prepared to organise and manage teams, monitor performance, and support recruitment and performance management. Salary £32,896 per annum; 4 days on 4 days off shift pattern (9am–9pm). Includes comprehensive benefits and emphasis on equal opportunity employment.
Required Qualifications
- Degree qualified in a biological science discipline
- Significant experience in a high-throughput laboratory environment
- Strong technical knowledge of food microbiology analysis
- Proven experience leading, motivating and developing laboratory teams
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues and customers
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and accreditation requirements
- Commitment to safety and quality standards (H&S, QA)
- Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
