Job Summary
Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs while conducting ongoing assessments of student achievement using formal and informal testing. Modify regular curricula to meet the needs of special education students and supervise teacher aides and volunteers. Provide personal care, medical care, and feeding as stated in IEPs, including physical restraint when necessary. Manage student behavior, administer discipline, and create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Train and bill for SHARS, RMTS, and MAC reimbursements, and compile all required reports and records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Valid Texas certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
- Semi-Annual Certification (Periodic Certification) for Single Cost Objective employees
- Ability to work effectively with school and community population
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Able to maintain emotional control under stress
- Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more
- Must have the ability to control behavior through physical restraint
- Must have the ability to assist non-ambulatory students
- Dress and shoes appropriate to job responsibilities
