Job Summary
Social Worker provides assessment, care planning, intervention, consultation, and referral for services where the social, economic, emotional or psychological circumstances of the patient presents barriers to care and/or an optimum level of function. Works under the general supervision of the Clinical Lead Social Worker as part of a multidisciplinary health care team delivering patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessment, care planning, intervention, consultation, and referral, with a focus on emotional and mental health issues related to illness and injury, education of patients/families, crisis counseling, and coordination of in-services. Requires knowledge of applicable legislation and community resources, strong counseling skills, ability to meet deadlines, and capacity to operate related equipment; keyboard at 30 wpm; participate in research activities. Location: Comox Valley Hospital, Courtenay, BC; Vancouver Island Health Authority context.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Social Work degree from a recognised university
- Current full registration with the BC College of Social Workers
- Post-degree preparation in program specific areas (e.g., Mental Health, Child Youth & Family, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation) preferred
- One (1) year recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
