Job Summary

Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides health promotion, disease prevention, education, assessment, counseling and consultation services to individuals, groups and communities within population health promotion. Services are offered in communities, homes, schools and outreach locations. Travel and the use of a personal vehicle are required. Responsibilities include applying relational practice, health equity concepts, nursing process, and collaboration with clients, families, co-workers and community partners to support health-enhancing behaviours across diverse populations within public health frameworks. This role emphasizes client-centered, trauma-informed, culturally safe care, with duties spanning education, assessment, and programmatic interventions in line with the Public Health Act, School Act, and Infants Act, and requires ability to work independently within a team and manage workload while utilizing computerized systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized nursing program with community or public health component
  • Two years' recent related experience working with children, youth and families
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
  • Completion of the BCCDC online Immunization Course and Exam
  • Certificate from a College Level Post Baccalaureate course in Breastfeeding that includes both practical and theoretical components
  • Completion of Cultural Safety Course
  • Valid BC Driver's License
