Job Summary
Second Cook at Amherst College Dining Services. Supports production and implementation of menus, supervises culinary operations alongside the First Cook, trains staff, manages inventory and production/storage areas, ensures food quality and safety, assists with special events, and maintains flexible scheduling to meet campus needs. Responsibilities include supervising daily operations, coaching service staff on storage and portioning, maintaining production schedules and usage reports, ensuring cleanliness and safety, and contributing to menu development and product refinement. Requires knowledge of cooking techniques (hot and cold production, sautéing, grilling, roasting), high-volume experience, strong communication, and attention to detail.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of food preparation experience, including hot and cold food production, high volume catering/banquet production, buffet presentation, à la carte cooking, including sautéing, grilling, roasting, and other fundamental cooking techniques
- Equivalent work experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience
- Strong verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational, and time management skills
