Job Summary
Research, analyze, and evaluate current year state tax forms, vendor specifications, and letters of intent to identify and document tax changes impacting company compliance with state Departments of Revenue. Assist tax software developers by answering tax-related questions and make recommendations on forms to add or remove from the existing suite. Coordinate research to support corporate departments including Government Relations, Legal, and Software Development, while editing and fact-checking tax materials for accuracy. Complete assigned projects on agreed-upon deadlines. This seasonal role supports H&R Block's Block Next strategy, blending human expertise with digital innovation to enhance our tax products and assist state programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and correctly formulate solutions to highly complex tax situations
- Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining focus, and perform assignments in a highly detailed and accurate manner
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with at least one online tax research tool
- Understanding and previous use of a Windows-based computer system and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- 1 year(s) of experience in tax research, tax preparation, or a related field, with strong knowledge of tax law
Desired Qualifications
- Masters degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
- Circular 230 credential (attorney, EA or CPA)
- Experience in multi-state tax preparation or concepts
- Judicial Clerkship or experience writing memoranda of law
