Job Summary
Conduct armed patrol duties to ensure safety and security of guests, employees, facilities, and the animal collection. Enforce park rules and regulations, prepare field reports, and maintain equipment in clean, functional condition. Assist with traffic direction, monitor facilities for hazards, and provide assistance to local police departments as requested. Collect revenue from donation boxes and machines, then deliver monies to Cash Control with appropriate documentation. Respond promptly to guest inquiries and requests for information while promoting a positive public image. Work approximately 20 hours per week across weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays. This seasonal, non-union position supports Brookfield Zoo Chicago's mission of conservation leadership and guest experience.
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or other relevant field
- four years of equivalent experience
- Two years of relevant security or loss prevention experience
- Ability to work with and around trained K9s
- Strong customer service orientation
- English fluency at a professional working proficiency
- Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience
- A valid driver's license
- Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of hire
- A valid out-of-state driver's license is required for out-of-state residents
- Must attend and complete the next available State of Illinois 40 Hour Police Firearms Training Program
- Must attend and obtain certification from the State of Illinois Full Time or Part Time Police Officer Certification Program within one year from date of hire
- Valid Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) Card
