Job Summary
Digitize fragile records while preserving object quality and image standards. Execute data collection and management tasks from existing print indexes, testing software applications to extract data with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. Document testing methodologies and results, then write reports with recommendations for ongoing project workflows. Collaborate with various divisions to develop strategies and timelines for assessment and evaluation reports. This seasonal, grant-funded role supports the State Library's retrospective conversion of a historic legislative index (1902–1989) into an electronic, searchable database using AI tools. Schedule is 35 hours per week between September 28 and December 18, 2026, with on-site work in the RI State Library.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, the social sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university
- at least two years of practical experience in applied statistics, research methodology and/or evaluation, or data analytics
Desired Qualifications
- currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in Library and Information Science or Data Science and/or Analytics
- Experience processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data
- Experience working with scanning and image editing software and equipment
- Knowledge of metadata and controlled vocabularies
- Strong technical and analytical skills with background in data analysis and data acquisition
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Tools, Claude AI, ABBYY Fine Reader and Microsoft Power BI
- Ability to focus on and work accurately on detailed oriented tasks
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, with capability of simplifying complex concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, time-restricted environment
- Available to work on-site during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
