Job Summary
Operate and maintain stationary steam boilers, regulating automatic stokers and oil burners while monitoring feed pumps and pressure gauges. Maintain fires at proper thickness, adjust drafts for efficiency, and ensure water levels remain correct. Perform repairs on grate units, tubes, and caps; conduct simple water tests for hardness and acidity; and measure fuel consumption. Clean boiler and pump rooms, sweep furnace areas, and perform seasonal tasks like mowing and watch duties. Record systematic readings on fuel, pressure, and steam flow; report equipment failures or low fuel supplies immediately. Utilize electronic recording systems and maintain a safe, orderly work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a boiler operator's license of the appropriate grade and type issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor
- Driver's license valid in New Jersey
