Job Summary
Seasonal Boating Instructor with Freedom Boat Club (Chicago Montrose Harbor) trains and onboards club members through virtual classroom and on-the-water training. The role requires US Coast Guard Captain’s License, boating experience, and the ability to conduct skill- and policy-based training while recording certifications in the Reservation system. Responsibilities include greeting members, delivering classroom and hands-on training, identifying additional training needs, maintaining a professional appearance, handling minor incidents, promoting the club to potential members, and adhering to safety policies. The position is part-time and seasonal (ends in Oct/Nov) with availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays; strong customer service and clear communication with members and staff are essential.
Required Qualifications
- US Coast Guard Captain's License
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Boating experience in or around boats
- Vision adequate to read / manipulate handheld computer tablets
- Electronics knowledge & utilization (Smartphone/tablet)
- Ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude during periods of high activity
- Maintain a cooperative, team attitude in working with supervisors and fellow employees
- Highly effective communications skills and friendly customer service
- Professional communication skills with co-workers, corporate, and members
- Must be a self-starter and capable of working unsupervised
- High attention to detail
