Job Summary
Calibrate the weld head for material thickness and perform mathematical calculations to set up machinery for flux-core sub-arc welding on steel shafts. Operate the sub-arc back-welder (turtle) by reading blueprints, preparing materials, and executing back-weld processes to ensure UT inspection compliance. Weld, grind, and repair each pole, then submit products to Quality Inspectors or perform back weld processes as directed. Move pole shafts into the seaming processor and repair seaming defects identified by quality control. Maintain equipment and participate in department safety and LEAN activities. Work independently or in a team environment following supervisor directions.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 0-1 year of welding experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Pass an American Welding Society (AWS) welder operator qualification test for submerged arc welding (SAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds maximum
- Ability to read and decipher blue prints and flat sheets without assistance
- Ability to be trained on and pass tests for operating an overhead crane and forklift
- Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record
- A thorough knowledge of welding procedures and practices
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds maximum
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Graduation from an accredited trade school with one year of experience
- Previous experience with sub-arc welding
- Ability to communicate and interact with coworkers and supervisor
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing setting
