Job Summary
Elementary Special Education Reading Disabilities Specialist delivering 30-minute daily reading sessions five days a week across three Amherst elementary schools. Focus on reading disabilities and dyslexia using multisensory, explicit instruction and structured literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell). Responsibilities include preparing and delivering differentiated instruction, monitoring student progress, participating in IEPs and amendments, writing progress reports, sharing expertise with colleagues, and supporting PLCs. Requires Massachusetts Special Education Teacher license (K-6) and willingness to coordinate across district schools; reliable transportation with mileage reimbursement.
Required Qualifications
- Massachusetts Special Education Teacher license covering grades K-6
- three years teaching reading to students with disabilities or equivalent
- bilingual proficiency and multicultural competency (desirable)
- experience with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities
- knowledge of evidence-based structured literacy approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell)
- ability to participate in IEP meetings and develop progress reports
- ability to drive between schools with mileage reimbursement
