Job Summary
Prepare and maintain medical equipment for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, sterile drapes, and solutions before operations. Pass instruments to surgeons, hold retractors, cut sutures, and count supplies while assisting with specimen preparation and dressing application. After procedures, help transfer patients to recovery, clean the operating room, and restock supplies. Operate sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and diagnostic equipment while adhering to aseptic technique and infection control standards. Maintain confidentiality and report any violations of laws or regulations in good faith.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of approved surgical technician program
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience in the Operating Room
- Ability to achieve Basic Life Support certification within 60 days of hire
- Ability to relate and work effectively with others
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
- Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
- Is aware of surgical technician standards and performs in accordance with them
- Ability to be on your feet for long periods
- Ability to lift or turn disabled patients
- Ability to concentrate for periods of up to four hours
- Ability to communicate verbally both in person and on the telephone
- Ability to use computer keyboard and to view a computer monitor
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center
- Must demonstrate the knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and the possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the center's policies and procedures
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members
- Must stand for long periods
- Must remain alert during operations
- Must be able to work in clean, well-lighted, cool environments
- Must be willing to be exposed to communicable diseases and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials
Desired Qualifications
- CST certification preferred
