Job Summary
Assist the surgical team during operative procedures, providing direct assistance to the surgeon/APP by holding retractors, helping with tissue manipulation, and performing basic tasks under supervision. Participate in planning and setup of supplies, ensure sterile techniques and equipment are maintained, monitor patient safety, uphold universal precautions, protect patient confidentiality, attend staff meetings, and adapt to evolving needs. Requires a high school diploma/GED; Surgical First Assistant certification; BLS; at least one year of surgical experience (orthopedics preferred); familiarity with EMR and computer applications; willingness to travel within the community. Environment is normal inpatient/outpatient hospital with some local travel.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required
- Surgical First Assistant certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Surgical Technologist certification preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum one-year experience in surgery or equivalent
- Experience with computer software required
