Job Summary
Set up the theatre for up to 22 daily cataract surgeries and provide competent scrub provision while anticipating and resolving potential problems. Support the surgeon through the daily theatre list, manage clinical waste disposal, and assist with post-procedure clean-down to ensure patient safety and clinical compliance. Handle medicine management, audit duties, and maintain accurate patient records alongside your surgical responsibilities. Work 30 hours over three days in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, applying your knowledge of vitrectomy, phaco instrumentation, and lens banks.
Required Qualifications
- Fully qualified Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
- Current registration with the NMC or HCPC
- Right to work in the UK
- Ability to set up for vitrectomy surgery
- Full understanding of Phaco Instrumentation
- Working knowledge of Biometry/Lens bank/Implants
- Competent user of computer systems and programmes
- An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
Desired Qualifications
- Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience
- Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry
- Ability to scrub for VR, glaucoma and oculoplastics cases
- Experience of supporting the surgeon during theatre – problem solving and issue resolution
- The training and coaching of others
- The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
