Job Summary
Accelerate compound synthesis through automation and digitalization by expanding synthetic technologies such as parallel chemistry and late-stage functionalization. Design, plan, and execute multi-step organic synthesis and purification of high-quality target molecules for biological screening while maintaining high laboratory productivity. Introduce new methodologies including reaction miniaturization, photochemical transformations, and small-scale purification, and generate high-quality reaction datasets for machine learning applications. Coordinate internal teams and manage CRO teams in Europe and China, serving as the contact point for parallel synthesis between Basel, Shanghai, and San Francisco. Propose and implement innovative solutions to synthetic and technical problems using state-of-the-art scientific research and miniaturized high-throughput experiments.
Required Qualifications
- very strong background in synthetic organic chemistry
- background in laboratory digitalization
- PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
- at least four years of industry experience
- expertise in automation technology, including solid dosing and liquid handling
- integrated with analytical and purification methodologies
- strong background in synthetic methodology development
- hands-on laboratory experimentation in small molecule synthesis
- experience in assessing and implementing digitalization and automation solutions in chemical laboratories
- understanding of machine learning concepts for reaction prediction
- experience in collecting reaction datasets
- experience in applying parallel medicinal chemistry approaches to solve medicinal chemistry problems
- experience in cross-functional and international relationship building within a large discovery organization
