Job Summary
Bioinformatics Scientist with hands-on knowledgebase management to expand and maintain an in-house biological knowledge database focused on metabolic pathways and cellular processes. Responsible for extracting, evaluating, and organizing biological knowledge from approved scientific, technical, and internal sources into structured knowledge assets; analyzing biological data to ensure relevance, accuracy, and consistency within the knowledge base; collaborating with scientists, bioinformatics, and digital-technology teams to support knowledge extraction, pathway interpretation, and upstream bioprocessing applications. Requires a Master’s degree in a related biological science field, 3+ years of experience, and skills in Python or other scripting languages, knowledge extraction, NLP, knowledge graphs, ontology-based data models, and biological network analysis. PhD is preferred but not required. The role sits in an office environment with standard Monday–Friday schedule and is located in Grand Island, NY. Compensation includes a salary range of $87,200–$116,200 plus bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related biological science field (PhD preferred but not required)
- At least three (3) years of related experience
- Strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related life science discipline
- Experience with biological databases, bioinformatics tools, biological data analysis, or scientific data management
- Knowledge of upstream bioprocessing, including cell culture, fermentation, process development, media optimization, or biologics manufacturing workflows
- Hands-on experience with Python or other scripting languages for biological data processing, workflow automation, or data analysis
- Experience with knowledge extraction, text mining, NLP, knowledge graphs, ontology-based data models, or biological network analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a cross-functional and interdisciplinary team
